No wonder pilots miss those questions. Not one made any sense to me.
How do you tell the MEA at MARKI is 3,000’? The altitude block above V573 says 3,500’ and *2,700’.
You’re exactly right. The MEA IS 3,500’. That’s what makes the VOR unreliable at an altitude of 3,000’ at MARKI intersection, which is beyond 22 NM.
Regarding (Refer to figure 208) While approaching the AUDIL intersection at FL290, ATC provides the following clearance: Cleared direct to AUDIL for the STELA ONE arrival. How should you proceed?
None of the answers are correct. Answer #1 is mostly correct in that it requires an ATC clearance to leave the assigned altitude of FL290. However, the crossing restrictions at SWEDE and STELA are not really restrictions, they are both advisories to “expect” to be issued the restriction. In the absence of a specific ATC instruction to cross SWEDE or STELA at a specific altitude, or “at or above” or “at or below” the altitudes depicted on the chart do not apply.
Answer #1 would be correct if the clearance was “Cleared present position direct to AUDIL, cross AUDIL at FL270” or something like that. Or, “Cleared present position direct AUDIL, cross SWEDE at or below FL230, cross STELA at 11,000′.”
