In this exerpt from Advanced IFR, by Pilot Workshops, follow along on this IFR flight from Springfield, CO (8V7) to Denver, CO (APA). The 100nm flight will depart just after sunset. The flight preparation will include selecting a Standard Terminal Arrival Procedure (STAR) into the congested Denver area airspace. There are 11 procedures to choose from into the Centennial Airport. STARs may have mandatory speeds and/or crossing altitudes published.
